Baby Yoga Classes
We follow a standard format to each session but our classes are full of variety so no two weeks are the same. We include a section for songs, some co-ordination movements for baby and some gentle stretches for parents. We also have a short relaxation at the end of each session.
Our aim is that you and your baby spend time together free from the busy routine of daily life.
What do I need to bring with me?
Bring your baby with you with any usual baby equipment needed.
We will provide yoga mats for you to sit / lie on but please bring a cushion to sit on if you would like.
Please dress in comfortable clothes. We will be sitting on the floor for some of the session, as well as standing up and moving around with your baby. If you find any of this uncomfortable then we can show you other ways to work with your baby.
What if my baby cries or needs feeding or changing?
We will progress at the babies pace and the baby will always come first so whether your baby needs feeding, changing or whether they are unsettled, you can just join back in when you are both ready. All parents are in the same situation and understand that babies don’t always work to a timetable, even if we want them to.
What if my baby is asleep when I arrive?
If your baby is asleep when you arrive please feel free to leave them in the buggy/sling or carseat whilst we gather everyone together, then if/when you are happy to do so you can wake them and begin the class.
My baby has just fed, can I still join in with the class?
Yes but there are some moves which wouldn’t be advisable with a full stomach, so we will ensure you are made aware of these during the sessions and offer alternatives for those babies who have just fed.
What can I expect from the sessions?
We will show you a mix of movements and poses standing up holding your baby, and also sitting or lying on the floor. We spend time during the class singing and teaching the little ones movement to music. You don’t need to be a good singer, the babies just love the sound of your voice. Some gentle stretches for parents are included, but you don’t need to have any experience of yoga yourself.
We always finish the class with a time of quiet relaxation. The babies may well be noisy and moving around, but it is possible to find a way to quieten the mind if only for a few minutes and take this relaxation with you after the session.
